Chris playing Guitar
Christopher Julian is a lifelong musician, and has been writing songs since 1990. Recently, he has embarked on a long process to record and produce collections of his most recent songwriting. He hopes to release two simultaneous CDs in 2011: "Butterfly Collection" and "Behind the Moon."

Below are audio samples, sketches and rough demos from the beginnings of this process. Feel free to listen or download. (Quicktime Plug-in Required for these recordings. May not work on PCs.)

During the production of the feature film Invisible Ink, Chris continued to write many songs. Two of these were recorded for the film itself, and feature Mer Boel of Waterbear on violin, and Christopher Weingarten of Somatic Umbra on percussion and bass.

The songs will eventually be remixed and arranged for Chris's upcoming CD "Behind the Moon."

Solo Recordings
In addition to songwriting for the group Screwthread, Chris has written dozens of songs over the last decade. Performing mostly on guitar, Chris also plays bass, a variety of percussion instruments as well as viola and some piano.

Music recording was on the backburner during much of the time that Invisible Ink was being produced and edited, but in the coming year, Chris will be devoting much of his time to producing his best songs, in a collection titled "Behind the Moon."

These recordings are merely solo-acoustic sketches of the songs as Chris wrote them. They will serve as the foundational tracks for much larger arrangements of these songs on his upcoming CD "Behind the Moon."

Screwthread was a short-lived band in 2002 & 2003 that only played two impromptu gigs and rarely rehearsed with all four members simultaneously. Nevertheless, it became an extensive opportunity for Chris to write and arrange songs for a rock band, instead of a simple solo acoustic treatment.

The batch of twelve songs that were demo recorded by the band many years ago will be reworked and sculpted into the CD "Butterfly Collection," with both electronic and natural instruments, to finally manifest the original intentions created by the group.

Tape Measure Symphony

Chris's experiences in experimental film at the Cinema Department of Binghamton University have carried over to this experimental audio piece created in 2004.

The full Tapemeasure piece has a very specific structure imposed, much like a symphony, using only four sets of sampled sounds, each of the four at four different speeds.
